The famous diver has inspired an association to preserve his work worldwide, Mundo del Silencio will be sinking a sculpture of a dolphin 40 metres down into the sea off Palm Mar at 4pm. The sculpture  will be lowered to a rock formation shaped like Roque Garcia in Teide National Park.

This ties in with the continued gentle and measured growth of services for residents and visitors. There are eight services a day starting at 6.10am for early birds and running until 4.40pm. The new service is being closely monitored by the bus company with a view to expansion once it has proved its worth.

The new roundabout and access roads from the main TF1 motorway are now well established and resulting in the free flow of the traffic down to the Palm Mar turn, but don’t worry, the natural barriers of Montaña Guaza and the Malpais de la Rasca nature reserve will always ensure that Palm Mar remains a partly hidden jewel on the Arona coast

This summer as well as the local village and town fiestas, there are some bug international acts all within easy reach of the southern oasis of Palm Mar. Alicia Keys attracted around 10,000 fans to the Santa Cruz dockside for her 6th June concert, even that was barely an hour away.

On 20 July Simply Red bing their Farewell Tour to Golf Costa Adeje, a mere 20 minutes from Palm Mar, this is sure to be a popular event. Los Cristianos and Las Americas will be offering up the usual summer food and craft fairs and Las Galletas just 5 minutes from Palm Mar is always bustling with street fairs.

Tenerife is still a top choice as a place to visit and especially to live. The cooling Atlantic lapping at the shore and the consistent sunny warm days are there all year round, what could be better.

Malpais de la Rasca has always held a special place in the hearts of locals but now there is a call to extend the protected area to conserve the many plants and animals unique to this area. Arona council has applied to the Canary Islands government to spread their protective net to include more of the volcanic outcrops and old grazing areas. The two lighthouses have received quite a bit of attention lately to protect their features from the elements that blow in from the Atlantic, and now the nearby rock pools and old farmers shelters can look forward to more protection.

This is of course good news for those enjoying the laid back life in Palm Mar, Montaña Guaza and Malpais de la Rasca will always be open for the public to walk and savour, but there can be no over development here to spoil this piece of paradise.

This means there are now seperate roads in and out of Guaza, running parallel and with plenty of room for cars and buses. There has never been a better time to visit Palm Mar and find out about the exciting rental opportunities in this restful corner of Tenerife South. It’s now easier to get to the South airport, barely 15 minutes away, or to reach the 2 golf courses at Amarilla Golf or Golf del Sur. If you want to pop up north to Santa Cruz on business or shopping, you will also appreciate the improved journey in and out of Palm Mar. 

The evening before the race, they are staging the annual Arona Blues Festival in the Rambla area of the village. This year, starting from 7.30 pm, you can enjoy FREE music from Six Fired Guys, Dixieland Jazz Band, and D’Ebony, until late into the night.

Just as long as you are up bright and early for the Sunday morning half marathon to see 100’s of runners head out of Las Galletas, up to the Palm Mar roundabout, right to Guarachico, and back past Costa del Silencio, to a warm welcome in Las Galletas. 

If you want to take part, you have until April 2, and can join at the Los Cristianos sports hall in Avenida Chayofita or through the website , the cost is 10 euros. Either as a runner or a spectator, it is always a fun event to watch as it passes by Palm Mar. 

Both Playa de los Menceyes and Bahia de los Menceyes, are spacious and luxurious, and furnished to the highest standard. You wont have seen many holiday rentals with such high standards, but there is even better to come when you pop outside. The balconies and terraces look down the natural alcove of Palm Mar, and out to the Atlantic, with the bustling resort of Los Cristianos away to your right and the island of La Gomera in the distance.

When you go out for a stroll, you will soon notice the tranquillity, as you wend your way down to the recently added promenade, with its seats and rest points. The naturally rugged beach attracts a sprinkling of local swimmers, amateur fishing fans, and nature enthusiasts.

Make a note in your diary, Sunday March 2 at the Rancho Restaurant from 4pm. For just 20 euros for adults and 15 euros for children under 10, you can enjoy the 3 course meal, entertainment, stalls and a bouncy castle for the kids, all in aid of K9 animal charity. It’s being staged by children from Britannia School and will count towards their Travel and Tourism A level course. During the afternoon, there will also be a raffle with a European city break as the main prize.
