One of the main access problems on the roads to Palm Mar has been cured with the completion of the new road running down from the TF 1 motorway at Guaza. At the busiest parts of the day, the roundabout at the entrance would often suffer a tailback as traffic built up but the completed work has eased the congestion.
This means there are now seperate roads in and out of Guaza, running parallel and with plenty of room for cars and buses. There has never been a better time to visit Palm Mar and find out about the exciting rental opportunities in this restful corner of Tenerife South. It’s now easier to get to the South airport, barely 15 minutes away, or to reach the 2 golf courses at Amarilla Golf or Golf del Sur. If you want to pop up north to Santa Cruz on business or shopping, you will also appreciate the improved journey in and out of Palm Mar.

Looking at the bright modern face of Palm Mar, it’s difficult to imagine that it has such a long history. Tucked away in it’s natural valley between Guaza mountain and Malpais de Rasca natural park, it has developed into a stylish residential resort and few are aware of its history.
The October issue of FreshMagazine sheds new light on how the dream was born. It’s all down to Aman A Miran Khan from Afghanistan who moved to Tenerife with his family and in 1968 fell in love with Palm Mar.
Working with a local architect, Luis Cabrera, they created their vision but by 1973 it had been sold on to several other developers and it’s progress hit a quiet phase. Now though as more developments are completed, the dream is looking pretty impressive with a serene realxed setting that makes a perfect place to live.
Aman died in 1990 but his dream is flourishing and he is remembered with a commemorative stone in the heart of Palm Mar.

Passing through the arched entrance to Palm Mar is like passing over a threshold into a softer more tranquil world. As a first time visitor, I just stood and looked down the main avenue, lined with cool shady palm trees and listened. No loud music, no traffic and no bustle of people rushing to save themselves a few seconds of time.
Lifted by the serene surroundings and keen to explore, I headed down past the small row of shops and bars and weaved through some of the smaller connecting streets past the modern stylish developments and down to the sea.
What a delightful promenade along the sea front, several people were making use of the benches in little alcoves while others just walked taking in the views. Looking across to Los Cristianos, it seemed a world away from this relaxed sun trap. The beach was a mix of keen swimmers, families with picnics, and a few lazy fishermen perched on rocks.
The towering rocky face of Guaza Mountain was keeping the wind down to a gentle breeze and a brisk walk later I found myself up near the start of Malpais de Rasca. The volcanic landscape leading to the candy striped lighthouse had attracted a few walkers but I just enjoyed the view and savoured the peace and quiet.
